Rector’s Letter for 8/31

Rector’s Letter for 8/31

Dear Redeemer Family,

This morning I am struck by how deeply I miss seeing all of you together. It has been over 5 months since I have seen some of you, and since we were all last gathered together at Redeemer for worship and prayer.

Your Ministry Team is committed to the work of maintaining connection between you and your Redeemer community. We are ready and willing to come by for a visit, to deliver communion, or to just see one another. Email Shirley at shirley.redeemerjax@gmail.com to schedule a visit with me or the other team members.

With community connection in mind, we will be beginning a four week long church-wide study of Psalm 23 this Sunday. You should have already received the initial letter announcing this study, and this week you will receive your “When the Lord is Our Shepherd” devotional book. If you did not receive a letter, email Shirley and she will ensure that you have what you need. We will begin the devotions together on Monday September 7.

I am really excited about this study, anticipating what the Lord will do in our midst as we dig into HIs Word together. We will also be utilizing our Wed evening Zoom gatherings beginning Sept 9 to further discuss Psalm 23 and what we are learning.

Finally, THIS WEDNESDAY Sept 2, we will worship together at 6:30 with a service of Lament. We will gather on Facebook Live (not Zoom), and in-person at Redeemer. Rev. Jeanne Higgins will lead a brief teaching on Lament and its importance within our tradition of faith, and then we will enter into a liturgy of Lament. We will be lamenting many different issues, including the recent tragedies and tensions in our country (racial, political, natural disasters), the continuing worldwide tragedy of abortion, and the many losses we each have experienced during this coronavirus crisis.

I am honored to be your Priest, and I look forward to seeing you through Morning Prayer, Wed online gatherings, and Sunday Worship.

Fr. Bill
