The day before the beginning of Lent is known as Shrove Tuesday. To shrive someone, in old-fashioned English, is to hear their confession, to assure them of God’s forgiveness, and give appropriate spiritual advice. Shrove Tuesday, or Fat Tuesday, is traditionally the day all of the fats kept around for cooking were used up before the beginning of Lent since the intent was to abstain from these fats for 40 days. Since pancakes are a standard way of using up fat, the day is also sometimes called Pancake Tuesday.
Our annual pancake dinner will be February 25, 6-7:30 p.m. Cost will be $4 per person or $10 maximum per family. Proceeds benefit Children’s Ministry.
