Deacon’s Letter for July 6, 2020

Dear Redeemer Family:

With our rector, Fr. Bill Driscoll, away on vacation for the next 3 weeks, you will be getting updates in the Monday email from ministry leaders. Join me in praying for the Driscolls as they take time to relax, refresh, and refocus. Ministry is weighty under the best of conditions and the last few months have been particularly difficult. Fr. Bill has risen to the challenge and led with confidence and the creativity that rapidly changing circumstances require. May Bill and his family find the rest that only comes from the Lord. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Mt 11:28)

I am excited about the opportunities for discipleship that lie ahead of us. While Ministry Team has been discussing how to best Know, Grow, and Go in these uncertain times, Darlene Fray has done an incredible job growing our small group ministry over the last few months. As we look ahead to fall and beyond, we are planning how best to develop small groups to be the primary place for discipleship outside worship services. I will be helping Darlene with Small Group Ministry as we expand it. We will partner with the Adult Education team to create opportunities for groups to carry out their mission of spiritual development and Bible study. Additionally, small groups are centers for pastoral care, outreach and mission, as well as for connection, prayer, and fellowship. We will rely on ministry leaders and others gifted in those areas to help groups to meet those goals in the ways that work well for each individual group. Each group will have its own personality.

Fr. Scott Schultz and I look forward to leading worship over the next couple of weeks. We are also planning a student-led service on July 26. Mark your calendars!

Deacon Jeanne
